James Strong

President and Co-founder

James Strong is a current freshman at Harvard and is motivated in the field of math. Due to his scholastic achievements, James was elected president of the National Math Honor Society chapter in Darien. At his school, he was also part of the Darien High School Math Team, where he competed regularly in competitions: the team achieved third in the region. James has experience in teaching, as he co-founded and instructed the gifted math program Strength From Numbers successfully from 2017-2021. Personally, he has taught over ninety students through this program. Outside of school, James has an enthusiasm for science, as he is currently conducting cancer research in Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. James is passionate about teaching others and has a genuine hope to guide his students to see the beauty in math.

Ming Wu

Co-founder and Senior Teacher

Ming Wu is a senior at Darien High School. He takes Multivariable Calculus and participates in other math extracurriculars. He is the vice-president of Math Team, and also is a full member of Mu Alpha Theta (National Math Honor Society). At Mu Alpha Theta, he has gotten a high enough score on the AMC10 to qualify for the AIME, an invitational math competition. He co-founded Strength From Numbers with James Strong in 2017 with the goal of enriching talented kids in math and potentially other subjects. In addition, he volunteers at a senior center in New Canaan, where he plays piano for the seniors there. Throughout high school, he has participated in both track and field and rowing. In his free time, he composes and pursues other music-related activities. His goal through teaching is to inspire a bigger-picture perspective on learning, and to promote interest in the field of math.

Andrew Qin

Senior Teacher

Andrew Qin is currently a freshman at NYU. He was a full member of the National Math Honor Society, while taking advanced courses in other fields of study. He was also a member of the school business club, and a technology club. He worked with Strength From Numbers from 2017 - 2021, teaching at various schools throughout Stamford such as Stark, Toquam, and KT Murphy. Outside of school, Andrew plays the violin; since middle school, he has made it into county and state-level orchestras. He also has received state-level art awards and enjoys playing tennis recreationally. Andrew hopes to teach and prepare students to apply skills learned in the program to situations in the future.

Marcus Feng

Senior Teacher

Marcus Feng is a freshman at Northeastern University. He was a full member of the National Math Honor Society. He was also a member of the school’s business, gardening, and technology clubs. Marcus has been part of the Strength From Numbers math program since the Spring of 2017 and has taught students at various schools throughout Stamford such as Stark, Toquam, and KT Murphy. He is interested in the field of engineering, as he uses his time researching circuitry, coding, chip making, and technology in general. Outside of school, he plays recreational tennis and uses his knowledge to build technological devices such as computers. Marcus aims to teach and prepare students to utilize math skills learned in the program to situations in the future.
